Apna Sahakari Bank Ltd., commonly known as "Apna Bank," was established on March 29, 1968, on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa, the Marathi New Year. It was founded in Mumbai and is an extension of the broader 'Apna group,' which was created in 1948 by labour leaders and activists with a socialist ideology, primarily serving the lower middle class in the textile-mill-dominated Naigaon locality. The bank is a Co-operative Bank with a multi-state operation, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conferred Scheduled status upon it on October 23, 2015. This status signifies its inclusion in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, granting it access to facilities like the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) and Marginal Standing Facility (MSF).
